today i saw
one twenty some year old man staring off into space
like a little child,
immersed in his headphones
two backpacks, one pink and one black, their wearers
smiling happily, hugging
as they walked
two tall buildings, ominous, even in their grandeur, like
monuments to excess, of
excess.
two workers, pushing a snowblower
and waiting for cars,
both with their minds so very far away
a bus hissing by, stomping its way across the pavement as
people and cars giggled around it
it felt like that kind of morning, the sun
crisp in the morning sky, you can see your breath, yes you can
and others too, like each of us has
our own personal cloud.
and i don't think i'll smoke any more, no i don't
not really anyway
my attention span is shrinking, shrinking, shrinking
and i don't care who reads this, not any more anyway
i don't read much any more, or really ever, come to think of it
i never really was a big reader
and i can't hold a thought for long enough to make something beautiful. not unless i try really hard, that is
and that just makes me hurt.
